After You Call
Call (517) 271-1747 and tell us what the door is doing - won't open, slams down, grinding on the track, whatever it is. Most of the houses we work on in this area were built between 1938 and 1988, with the median landing around 1954, so a lot of what we see is original or near-original hardware: single-car openings with heavier wood panels, torsion springs sized for doors that don't match what's sold off the shelf today, and tracks mounted to framing that's settled over seventy-plus years.
We work out of 234 W Louis Glick Hwy in Jackson and cover the surrounding towns within about a twenty-mile radius - Vandercook Lake, Michigan Center, Parma, Spring Arbor, Napoleon, Brooklyn, Hanover, Concord, Leslie, Springport, Addison, Albion, Stockbridge, Onsted, North Adams, and Manchester. Distance changes what we can get to same-day versus what needs to be scheduled, so when you call, say where you are and we'll give you a straight answer on timing instead of a vague promise.
One limitation worth saying up front: if your door needs a part that's no longer made - some of the older one-piece wood doors fall into this - we may need to order a replacement section or swap the whole door rather than patch the original. We'll tell you which situation you're in before we start, not after.
Who You Are Dealing With
We're a garage door repair and installation outfit working the Jackson, MI area
Springs, openers, cables, rollers, tracks, and full door replacement. We don't do landscaping, fencing, or general handyman work; garage doors and the hardware that runs them is the job.
This area runs cold-climate severe winters
Which matters more for garage doors than people expect. Steel panels contract, torsion springs lose a little tension in deep cold, and nylon rollers that were fine in October start binding by January. We set spring tension and weatherseal with that swing in mind rather than installing the same way you would in a mild climate.
The service area is mostly older housing
Pre-1960 stock across the nineteen named communities we cover - mixed in with newer builds from the decades after. Median household income here runs around $65,349, and most of the roughly 9,872 owner-occupied houses out of 14,232 households in the area are not working with unlimited repair budgets. That shapes how we talk about a job: if a spring replacement gets the door working and the opener still has life in it, we say so, rather than pushing a full system swap when it isn't needed.

Plain Answers
Do you fix doors on older houses or only newer builds? Older. Given how much of the housing in this area dates to 1938-1988, that's most of what we work on - side-mounted torsion hardware, original wood panels, openers bolted to framing that's decades old. We carry parts and knowledge suited to that, not just whatever's newest on the market.
Will you tell me if repair isn't worth it? Yes. If a door is old enough, or damaged enough, that patching it costs nearly what replacement does, we say so plainly instead of running up a repair bill on a door that's on its way out anyway.
Do you cover towns outside Jackson itself? We cover the surrounding area out to about twenty miles, including Vandercook Lake, Michigan Center, Parma, Spring Arbor, Napoleon, Brooklyn, Hanover, Concord, Leslie, Springport, Addison, Albion, Stockbridge, Onsted, North Adams, and Manchester. Call and tell us where you are so we can give you realistic timing.
What's the one thing you won't do? Sell a full system replacement when a spring or cable repair solves the actual problem - we'd rather you call us again in five years than once today.
